SYNOPSIS
Hamlet is probably one of the most famous plays ever written with lines that everyone can quote:
‘To be or not to be, that is the question’
‘This above all: to thine own self be true’
‘Something is rotten in the state of Denmark’
‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks’
Yes, we all know these lines, whether or not we recognize them as being from Hamlet. In this study guide, Steven Smith lays out the key themes of the play: revenge and justice, our own mortality and the meaning of life, and the blurred lines between madness and reality.
And he provides quick descriptions and analyses of each of the main characters, explaining their role and purpose within the play.
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT NARRATING THIS BOOK
What I loved about narrating this book, is that Steven is a very best kind of teacher. He conveys his points enthusiastically and yet, very clearly. While he series of study guides is intended to help students and educators and structured in the format of short essays or answers to typical exam questions, I think it is just as accessible for everyone.
If you are a theatre-goer but feel a little anxious about going to see a Shakespeare play, I recommend listening to this audiobook so you refresh your memory on what the play is trying to say and how to get the most out of the experience.
