SYNOPSIS
A right royal drama! When the popular Queen Margaret receives a fatal diagnosis, she has make decisions quickly. Legally, her daughter Princess Mary has disbarred herself from the succession by her secret second marriage to her former bodyguard. But her grandson, Prince Victor - the next in line - had always been her favorite, he is an unknown and untested quantity in the eyes of the people and politicians of Iakos, our wealthy island kingdom. But more importantly, Victor has fallen in love, for the first time ever. However, it is with the head chef in the royal kitchens, not something he is ready to share with the world, yet.
The family declares war on itself, splitting into two factions - pro-Princess Mary and pro-Victor. And much like the dramas played out in real life, no holds are barred are the two fight it out, with deadly consequences.
WHY I LOVED NARRATING THIS AUDIOBOOK
While the characters inhabit a world of palaces and privilege, they are experiencing very real emotions and challenges. Victor is gay and has fallen in love for the first time, with someone who really cares about him, but is worried that he is beneath him and needs to keep it secret. His aching for a ‘normal’ life and relationship is heartwarming. And his journey is great, as he steps up and discovers his own strength and how to use the power of his position for good. His mother and rival is definitely ‘queen bitch’ along with her sister, and takes their fight in very dramatic and nasty places. The relationships between the younger royals is a lot of fun. As they trip from gala dinners and glamorous parties, but then also act as typical cousins behind closed - albeit gilded - doors. The book comes in a 7 hours 45 minutes, so it’s a good story to engross yourself in for a week or so. This is the first novel by Ave Edwards, but he promises there are more to come in this series.
